Who Is a Good Candidate for LASIK?

LASIK laser eye surgery can correct problems in your yes with ease. Not
only is this procedure non-invasive and require minimal recovery time,
but it could dramatically improve your vision and your quality of life!
Not everybody qualifies for this procedure, unfortunately, as it can only
fix certain types of issues, but we find that the vast majority of ideal
LASIK candidates had no idea they even qualify. If you fit the description
outlined in our blog, call us for a LASIK consultation and learn more
about how this procedure could benefit you.

Over 18 Years Old

LASIK is not currently approved for those under the age of 18. So long
as you are legally an adult, you may be able to obtain the benefits of
LASIK. It’s also worth noting that those who need treatment for
things like severe nearsightedness, astigmatism, or mild to moderate farsightedness
will need to be at least 21 years of age.

Generally Healthy Eyes

LASIK surgery requires that your eyes be in generally pretty good condition,
including free from anything like scars or infections.

Able to Lie Flat Without Discomfort

You will have to lie down flat in order to undergo LASIK surgery, so the
ability to lie flat for an extended period of time is important.

Able to Fix Your Vision on One Point

Modern lasers have become so immensely sophisticated that they can track
and accommodate for certain eye movements during the procedure, but the
best results usually come when the patient is able to fix their vision
on one particular point for one to two minutes.

Willing to Stop Wearing Contacts

Do you wear contact lenses? If so, you’ll have to stop wearing them
for about a month before getting a LASIK consultation. Contacts change
the shape of your cornea, which changes your results when determining
your LASIK candidacy. For best results, go with regular glasses for a
little while.

Willingness to Sign a Consent Form

As with any surgery, there’s risk involved with LASIK. You’ll
have to sign a consent form from your Dallas eye surgeon before you can
undergo LASIK treatment, so make sure you take the time you need to answer
each question honestly.

If you think you fit the description for an ideal LASIK candidate, contact
the Key-Whitman Eye Center today at (214) 220.3937 to
schedule a consultation!
