Dramatic Survey Results: 97 Percent of People Prefer Results of LASIK to Wearing Contacts
- Posted on: Aug 24 2016
If you have been hesitant to undergo
LASIK eye surgery, even though wearing contact lenses and glasses can be a hassle, new research
may change your mind. For the first time, a three-year longitudinal survey
asked former contact lens wearers whether they were more satisfied with
their vision wearing contacts or following LASIK.
As noted in the headline above – survey participants preferred LASIK
to wearing contacts by an overwhelming margin. The research,
published in the August 2016 issue of the journal
Ophthalmology, also revealed participants with LASIK reported fewer eye infections,
abrasions and ulcers and an improved ease of night driving compared to
contact lens wearers.

amazing, life-changing stories with us all the time.
Still not convinced? Below, our patients share the many ways their lives
have changed for the better following LASIK surgery at Key-Whitman.*
No. 1: They can see clearly now! Most patients end up with 20/20 or near
20/20 vision following a LASIK procedure.
“Having LASIK at Key-Whitman is the best thing I ever did for myself.
My eyesight was ‘off the charts’ and Dr. Whitman gave me 20/20
vision in just a few minutes.”
“The next morning, I drove myself to my follow-up appointment. I
now have 20/20 vision in both eyes. I also had a slight astigmatism in
my left eye, which I wasn’t aware of until the pre-op exam. They corrected
this as well.”
“I found that I could see clearer than I ever have been able to (even
with my contacts). I went to the follow-up appointment this morning to
discover that I already had 20/20 vision in both eyes.”

in this recent story.
No. 2: They typically see more fine details than ever before.
“I went walking in the park by my home yesterday, I could not believe
how vivid and clear all the trees and plants looked.”
“I have discovered that trees even have leaves at the very tops and
am able to read road signs from distances that I previously could not
even see the sign at all.”
No. 3: They can see clearly when they wake up in the morning, no more hassling
with glasses and contacts.
“I’ll not dwell on all of the inconveniences of wearing glasses
I no longer have to suffer. But among the most enjoyable are my ability
to see the alarm clock, the absence of peripheral distortions and
being able to use a variety of sunglasses.”
“I used to look out the window in the morning and wonder what it
was like to see beyond the front porch. Finally, when I felt this procedure
was perfected, I went for it. And sure enough, I know what it feels like
to wake up in the morning and see the rabbits playing in the pasture.”
“I can see! I had the LASIK surgery and it has completely changed
my life. I don’t have to wear contacts. I don’t have to wear glasses,
and it’s the best thing I ever did for myself.”
No. 4: Sports, live events and other activities are more enjoyable and
hassle-free after LASIK.
“This has been a life changer. I can see better than ever and have
been able to enjoy life to the fullest without glasses or the hassle of
contacts any more. Everyday work, being active, sporting events and even
seeing Billy Joel in concert.”
“It’s been 10 years since the surgery, and I still have 20/20
vision. I no longer worry about misplacing my glasses or losing a contact
lens when traveling or skiing or boating or swimming.”
“Now, I can go to the movies without having to wear my glasses because
half way through the movies my eyes would be burning from my contacts.”
No. 5: They find out squinting is a thing of the past.
“My boss actually came into my office right after the surgery, and
he looked at me and he said, ‘You’re not squinting any more!’
And you know, I just look at him and smile real big and just say, you
know, ‘I know.’ I can see. I don’t have to squint.”
No. 6: They experience a renewed sense of freedom.
“My LASIK surgery has totally changed my life and given me a freedom
I haven’t had since I started wearing glasses at ten years of age.”

No. 7: Many say they would have done it sooner had they known how quick
and painless it is to get LASIK.
“The procedure was remarkably painless. I didn’t feel a thing.
Not only that, but the way that you explained everything step-by-step
put my mind at ease … The only surprise that I had was that it
was painless and easy.”
“As far as my actual surgery, it was great. There is literally no
pain or discomfort.”
No. 8: For many, LASIK resolves years of horrible distance vision.
“I had Intra-LASIK performed this past Friday, and it is by far the
greatest thing I have ever experienced in all my 34 years. I have been
nearsighted (-7.00) in both eyes for almost 20 years. I had pretty much
come to the conclusion that I was going to be stuck in contacts and glasses
my entire life.”
“As you know, I was unable to see the big E on the eye chart without
my glasses. Indeed, I was rejected from military service because of my
unacceptable visual acuity. So, I am absolutely amazed that you were able
to surgically correct my sight to 20/20 in both eyes.”
“For someone who had Coke-bottle thick glasses, like I did, it’s
No. 9: They save money. No need to purchase new glasses, contact lens or
