AcrySof Toric for Cataract Treatment in Dallas

AcrySof ToricVision loss of any degree can be frightening and frustrating. It can have
a significant impact on the quality of life. Cataracts are the most common
source of vision loss usually comes with age. Fortunately, there are ways
to improve the visual imparities that come with cataracts by using implantable
lenses, such as
AcrySof Toric lenses.

Your eyes have two natural lenses that are responsible for focusing light
to your retina. The outer focusing lens is called the cornea; the inner
lens is called the crystalline lens. When light enters the eye, it first
passes through the cornea, then through the crystalline lens. As it passes
through these two lenses, the rays of light are bent so that they meet
at a single point on the retina. The retina then sends the electrical
pulses to the brain where they are interpreted as a picture. The crystalline
lens is made up mostly of water and protein. As you age, sometimes those
proteins clump together, causing the lens to become discolored and blurry.
When this happens, it is known as cataract. In order to restore visual
acuity, it is necessary to replace the natural crystalline lens with an
intraocular lens implant.

Unfortunately, many people that suffer from cataracts also suffer from
astigmatism. Astigmatism occurs when there is an irregularity in the shape
of the eye’s refractive surface that can distort vision. While there
are a variety of implantable lenses available, AcrySof Toric lenses have
the advantage of being able to correct cataracts and treat astigmatism.
This can result in less need for the use of glasses or contact lenses
for distance after they are implanted.

If you would like to learn more about all of the options available to treat
cataracts, Key Whitman would be happy to answer all of your questions.
