Portrait photo of Sarah PenrodCalling all cowboys and cowgirls! Come join us Sunday, June 12, 2016 at the Joule Hotel in Dallas. Key-Whitman Eye Center is a proud sponsor of “A Feast for Your Eyes,” a fundraiser to support Prevent Blindness Texas. Food Network celebrity chef Sarah Penrod will treat guests to an assortment of tasty bites from her new cookbook, “Urban Cowgirl,” and Casamigos Tequila cocktails will be flowing. To reserve tickets or learn about sponsorship opportunities for “A Feast for Your Eyes,” contact Patricia Melton at (214) 528-5521 or pmelton@preventblindnesstexas.org.

According to Key-Whitman President and Chief Surgeon Jeffery Whitman, M.D., who is serving as Honorary Chairman of the fundraising event, “We believe in Prevent Blindness Texas’ initiatives to provide Texas residents with vision screenings to detect eye diseases early. With early detection, treatment can often stabilize vision and prevent blindness,” Dr. Whitman says.

The Food Network Star alum says the importance of raising funds for charitable organizations, like Prevent Blindness Texas, isn’t lost on her. “Whenever I have the opportunity to work on a charity event, I check out the organization first. I was drawn to Prevent Blindness Texas, because of all the great things they do for children,” explains Penrod.

“Prevent Blindness Texas has been dedicated to its mission – to prevent blindness and preserve sight – for 60 years. They do amazing work to educate Texans about eye health and help ensure Texas children are afforded the benefits of sight as they grow. This aligns with Key-Whitman’s dedication to ‘changing lives’ through optimum eye care, so we couldn’t think of a worthier cause to support,” Dr. Whitman says.

Charities that help children hold a special place in Penrod’s heart for two big reasons. As she explains, “I’m a mom, I have two little boys (Micah 3 and Gabriel 5). So, when I found out ’A Feast for Your Eyes’ involved helping preserve children’s vision, I said, ‘I’m on board!’”

So why should YOU support Prevent Blindness Texas and attend “A Feast for Your Eyes?”

“Prevent Blindness Texas is a great cause, because it provides vision screener training, community outreach and patient service programs to our communities. The organization needs our support to screen vision for more than 25,000 indigent and uninsured children and adults, and to continue providing thousands of prescription eyeglasses to Texans in need,” Dr. Whitman says.

Adds Penrod, “It’s going to be a blast! The Joule Hotel in Dallas is an exquisite historic property with a lovely art gallery that is located just down the street from Dealey Plaza. Along with plenty of Urban Cowgirl inspired dishes, George Clooney’s Casamigos Tequila cocktails and country chic attire – you can support a worthy cause. Plus, I’d love to meet you, so come and see me!”
