Reduce Signs Of Aging With Anti-Aging Injectables

Woman looking in the mirror and touching her faceAre you tired of looking in the mirror and seeing crow’s feet, frown lines or wrinkles around your eyes, mouth and forehead? While these signs of aging are normal, they can make you look tired or upset. Anti-aging injectables, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, can improve the appearance of wrinkles and frown lines, leaving you looking years younger.

Why do we get wrinkles?

As we age, our skin loses elasticity and becomes more fragile. Natural production of oils in the skin decreases and fat in the deep layers of the skin diminishes, causing skin to be loose and saggy and lines and crevices to become more pronounced.

Age isn’t the only cause of facial wrinkles. Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light—either from the sun or artificial sources such as indoor tanning beds—is the primary cause of wrinkles that appear at an early age. The UV light breaks down collagen in the skin, causing it to lose strength and flexibility.

Smoking can accelerate the aging process and result in premature wrinkling, which is thought to be caused by reduced blood flow to the skin. Repetitive facial movements can also cause wrinkles. Frown lines and wrinkles from smiling or squinting are common and become more pronounced with age as the skin is no longer able to “bounce back” into place due to lost elasticity.

How does BOTOX® treat wrinkles?

If you have wrinkles in your face—either from age, smoking or exposure to UV light—BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment is a non-invasive treatment used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, frown lines and other signs of aging in the face. When injected into selected muscles, BOTOX® weakens or paralyzes these muscles, effectively eliminating “crow’s feet,” frown lines and forehead lines.

Discomfort from BOTOX® is usually minimal and brief. Prior to injection, your physician may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream. BOTOX® is a safe procedure with limited side effects, the most common of which are temporary eyelid droop and nausea. Localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness and/or bleeding or bruising may be associated with the injection. Patients with certain neuromuscular disorders such as ALS, myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects.

What results can I expect?

Within a few days of your treatment, you will see a marked improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines between your eyebrows. These lines will continue to improve for up to a month. Results from one treatment can last up to four months before another injection is needed.

In clinical trials, nearly 90 percent of men and women rated the improvement in their appearance as moderate to better one month after treatment. Results may vary.

To get the best results from your BOTOX® treatment, choose a doctor who is experienced in administering BOTOX® Cosmetic. Some Key-Whitman surgeons specialize in reconstructive and cosmetic eyelid surgery, including BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment.
