Wrinkles around the eyes, also known as “crow’s feet” or “expression lines,” can be the bane of any individual who takes his or her appearance seriously. On the other hand, some people find crow’s feet attractive, as they are a sign of laughter and joy. If you long to get rid of wrinkles around your eyes, consider LASIK eye surgery or even Botox.
Wrinkles around the eye are most often caused by laughing and smiling, as well as squinting, sun damage, dry and aging skin. While there is no absolute prevention method, there are things that can be done to reduce the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes. Eye wrinkles can also be caused by excessive eye rubbing and sleeping on your stomach.
Prevention: Sleep on your back, use SPF whenever possible and wear sunglasses. Additionally, use eye cream with high SPF and understand how movements the muscles in your face make can affect the appearance of your skin. Eye cream will keep the skin around the eyes moist, prevent dryness, which can lead to wrinkles and provide the skin with nutrients for elasticity and skin health.
If you have wrinkles around your eyes or between your brows from squinting, there are two solutions: If you’re squinting due to bright lights or the sun, consider transition lens glasses or sunglasses. If the squinting is due to poor eyesight and difficulty focusing, consult with your doctor about LASIK vision correction surgery to help eliminate squinting, thus preventing wrinkles around the eyes.
Curing existing wrinkles: Prevention is only the first step. If you have existing wrinkles, consider BOTOX to remove them. BOTOX is injected into the muscles around the eyes that are used to relax facial muscles and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The average BOTOX treatment will last three to five months, at which time the injections can be repeated.
For most people, wrinkles around the eyes are a beauty nuisance, but they are also almost entirely preventable. If you are beginning to notice wrinkles around your eyes, consider the potential cause of your wrinkles and take steps to reduce their appearance.
