Dallas SkylineSummer is coming to an end, and Dallasites are gearing up for some of their favorite autumn events. Here are a few local events we can’t wait for this September:

Tour des Fleurs 10K/20K Run

The 9th annual Tour des Fleurs 10K/20K run will take place on Saturday, September 20. The run will circle White Rock Lake, and the post-race celebration will include live entertainment, food, vendors, adult beverages and plenty of fun on the Martin Rutchik Concert Lawn at the Dallas Arboretum. Runners are eligible to win over $10,000 in cash and prizes. All runners will receive a race shirt and finisher cap.

Registration is open now—it's $55 for the 10K and $60 for the 20K through September 9.

State Fair of Texas

Held at the historic Fair Park in Dallas, the State Fair of Texas is a 24-day showcase of entertainment, exhibits and competitions. If you’ve never been to the State Fair, this is one Texas event you don’t want to miss, with concerts, car shows, livestock, rides on the Midway and, of course, fried food creations. The State Fair’s gates will open on September 26 at 10AM. Check out the fair’s daily schedule to see what’s happening when and help plan your trip to the State Fair.

Ticket prices vary and can be purchased online or at any Kroger store. Visit bigtex.com for State Fair details and information.

The Mind's Eye: Masterworks on Paper from David to Cezanne

Co-curators Olivier Meslay and William B. Jordan bring together a collection of works ranging from quick sketches to watercolors by 70 artists including Degas, Cezanne, van Gogh, Manet and many more. This special exhibit is drawn from the Dallas Museum of Art’s collection as well as several private collections, and features more than 100 works on paper, many of which are rarely on display. Mind’s Eye offers the viewer new insights into working methods and practices of many favorite 19th and 20th century artists, and provides an intimate view of their approach to artmaking.

This special exhibition runs through October 26 at the DMA. Admission to the exhibit costs $8, and it is free for DMA Partners. Visit dallasmuseumofart.org for more information.

Whether you’re planning on attending one of these events or one of many others happening across the metroplex this month, be sure to take steps to protect your eyes, especially when outdoors. Take your sunglasses (with 100% UVA and UVB protection) and wear a wide-brimmed hat to the State Fair and other outdoor events to protect your eyes from the sun. Remember: even when it is cloudy, the sun’s UVA and UVB rays can damage your eyes.
