As we illustrated in our recent blog post, 2012 Flexible Spending Accounts:
Why Spend on LASIK Now?, now is the best time to spend on LASIK or vision
correction surgery. With that in mind, you may have already determined
that you are a
candidate and scheduled an appointment forLASIK eye surgery.
Here are a few easy tips from our experienced eye doctors to help you prepare
for the surgical procedure and life-changing experience.
Take time off. While the procedure itself only takes about 15-20 minutes, we ask that
the patient make arrangements to stay for an hour to 1 ½ hours.
Following the procedure we also recommend that the patient return home
to sleep for a few hours in order to allow for the healing process to
begin. At Key-Whitman Eye Center we perform most LASIK surgeries on Friday,
and the patient is usually able to return to work on Monday. However,
every patient heals at a different pace, so it is important to allow for
enough time to rest before returning to your daily routine.
Come with a clean face. On the day of the surgery, it is important that you refrain from wearing
any makeup or lotion on your face or near your eyes, this will prevent
any unwanted bacteria from entering the eye post surgery.
Dress comfortably and in layers. Be sure to wear something comfortable on surgery day so that you will not
have to change clothes when you return home to rest. You may also want
to wear layers, as the surgery room is kept at a cooler temperature.
Coordinate transportation. You will not be able to drive immediately following the procedure, so be
sure to coordinate with a family member or friend to drive you to and
from the LASIK center.
