More Featured Story

When I was in 2nd grade, my bad vision became very apparent. My eyes changed DRASTICALLY every year. I was tested for diabetes multiple times, and had astigmatism as well. Most of my youth was spent either not seeing at water parks/swimming pools (glasses would get splashed, so I walked around blind) or adjusting my glasses on my face to see when my vision changed again before another year had passed. When 5th grade came around, I finally was able to get contacts, and have juggled contacts and glasses since then.

Around the time I was 18-20, and my growth had slowed, I was a patient at Key-Whitman, and LASIK was a dazzling procedure to see again. My dad, who also had poor vision his whole life, had LASIK done with Key-Whitman earlier and had much success. I was turned down for LASIK, I was not a possible candidate due to the correction needed, and the measurements of my eyes. It was heartbreaking, to be very honest. I had hoped while growing up, that medicine would take a turn and be available to me to one day have a normal life without glasses or contacts. Finding out the problem was me was devastating! I spent the next couple years silently sulking every time I had to order contacts, change my prescription, take out my contacts, etc. Finally, at one of my yearly exams, my doctor alerted me to the Visian ICL procedure. Talk about AMAZING news!! It was worth the 3 months of "trouble" to never have to worry about another contact. During the ICL procedure, Dr. Whitman also tended to my astigmatism to repair some of its effects on my vision.

Ever since my family started going to Key-Whitman, we have not had a bad day at the eye doctor. I have been to many eye doctors growing up, and Key-Whitman was our last stop - but not last choice here in Dallas. Both my father and I have been able to forget the constant troubles of glasses and contacts. In fact, my ICL procedure was a wedding gift from my parents! Talk about a weight being lifted off your shoulders.

I have always had full confidence in the staff, and always been greeted with smiling helpful faces. During my ICL, I had a phone number and person to talk to if I had ANY questions regarding any of the procedures - which was important being one of Dr.Whitman's earlier patients for it. I must also say, their optometry department has always been wonderful in helping to choose eye-wear for my age and face. My mother, father, and brother would also tell you that!

Vision is a very tricky thing, in my book, and has affected my human spirit at times when I did not have it. Having faith in someone who is looking out for something as important as my vision health, is very important.

I'm glad my family never settled until we found the best.
