37817420_sTechnology is constantly changing, and the technology we use to perform LASIK eye surgery is no different. LASIK tools and procedures have evolved greatly over the past 25 years. As technology improves, more patients are able to benefit from corrective eye surgery and the outcomes of vision correction surgery improve.

Key-Whitman is one of the first LASIK Centers in the Dallas/Fort Worth area to perform LASIK and PRK eye surgery with the WaveLight® Refractive Suite, which represents the most advanced laser eye surgical technology available anywhere in the United States. The WaveLight® Refractive Suite uses two different lasers during LASIK Surgery. The WaveLight® FS200 Femtosecond Laser is used in the first step of the LASIK procedure, when the flap is created. The WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser is used in the second step, which reshapes the cornea, correcting the patient’s nearsightedness, farsightedness and/or astigmatism.

The combination and optimization of these two lasers provides the patient exceptional comfort and allows doctors even more efficiency in performing vision correction procedures. The WaveLight® FS200 Femtosecond Laser features the world's fastest flap creation times, delivering precise outcomes. This laser is a low-energy, high-precision laser that enables ultrafast patient treatment. It combines low pulse energy and a unique cutting pattern for creating accurate flaps.

The WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser is the cutting edge of LASIK and PRK surgery technology. Its speed decreases procedure times, delivering the world’s shortest treatment times. The significant improvement in the eye tracking system allows the EX500 Excimer laser to monitor a patient’s eye movements throughout the procedure and ensures the laser treatment is applied as planned.

Though technology has improved precision and effectiveness of LASIK eye surgery over the years—and Key-Whitman is committed to using only the best when it comes to laser technology—LASIK eye surgery doesn’t come without some risks. Potential side effects of LASIK include glare from bright lights, halos (rings around lights), light sensitivity, night driving glare and visual fluctuation.
