Five Family-Friendly DFW Events in August

Posted By Key-Whitman Eye Center || 5-Aug-2014

The Texas summer heat may be at its peak, but that doesn’t mean there’s any shortage of fun to be had in Dallas this month! Here are a few upcoming events you and your family might enjoy, indoors or out.

Dallas Arboretum August Dollar Days

The dog days of summer mean Dollar Days at the Dallas Arboretum. During the whole month of August, you can visit the Dallas Arboretum for only $1. Pack a picnic and bring the kids to experience the new eight-acre Children’s Adventure Garden.

Fridays at the Arboretum are Family Fun Fridays, which include face painting, a petting zoo, nature art and Kindermusik.

Visit the Dallas Arboretum website for more info.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey: Built to Amaze!

The 143rd edition of the Greatest Show on Earth, Built to Amaze!, will surprise and delight audiences with over-the-top feats of strength, agility and courage. Elephants, tigers, acrobats, aerialists and much more put on one spectacular performance.

The circus runs through August 10 at American Airlines Center.

Phantom of the Opera

Cameron Mackintosh’s spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera is coming to the Winspear Opera House August 6 through 24 as part of the show’s tour across North America. The breathtaking production completed a sold-out tour in the United Kingdom and critics rave that the performance is “bigger and better than ever before.”

Cinema in the Circle

Every Saturday in August, Cinema in the Circle offers free outdoor movies on a big screen in Addison Circle Park. Bring family, friends and a blanket for a movie under the stars. This year’s movies are (in order of showing): Night at the Museum, X-Men, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Batman (1996 version), and Fantastic 4.

Admission is free!

2014 LEGO KidsFest

Creative, hands-on fun for children of all ages and LEGO builders of all skills and interests. Take a walk through life-size and miniature models in the LEGO Model Museum, learn new building skills in the LEGO Club & Master Builder Academy and see a special screening of The LEGO Movie.

LEGO KidsFest takes place Friday August 29 through Sunday August 31 at the Dallas Convention Center.

The sun is hot and days are long this month. If you’re planning to be outside, don’t forget to wear your sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat to protect your eyes from the sun. Even on a cloudy day, the sun’s UVA and UVB rays can damage your eyes, so be sure you are wearing sunglasses designed to block 100% of UVA and UVB rays.
